At a time when everything feels unaffordable, we wanted to make a Koala mattress discount feel like a little victory—just not for everyone. I was asked to design and build a microsite from scratch that would deliberately make it tricky for Baby Boomers to access the offer. We took something that’s normally annoying anyway, a captcha, and reconfigured the questions to be intentionally tricky for older users. The design took inspiration from Windows Vista, using the Frutiger Aero style to give it that slightly dated, over-the-top feel. Our copywriters came up with clever, funny questions, which we paired with comedic imagery and GIF pop-ups throughout. The result was an experience that was frustrating and deflecting for Baby Boomers, while prioritizing younger generations’ access to a much-needed discount on Koala products. Everything was designed and developed in Figma.
